Exploring Breakdown
Disclosure: I have not been compensated or sponsored in any way for any mentions in this post. I just f*ing love them.
Ever find yourself in a new town and don’t really know what there is to see?
This exact situation has presented itself to me multiple times in life as I have moved frequently. I like to think of myself as the modern day nomad, but without the van.
Having a new “home base” (temporary or permanent) is an opportunity to see more of the world! And with ye olde internet, it’s a bit easier to find sights/festivities nearby.
THE SET UP: this is the backstory to your main event of living in a new location. This is where we search out information on the primary location and surrounding areas.
Bust out the pinterest! Or the google. Whatever floats your goat.
Type in some keywords and BEHOLD — a wealth of information from people that have been or plan to be in the area you are now exploring.
MAIN EVENT: you have done the research, you have made the lists, and you are finally at your destination. You have harvested every morsel of opportunity to learn more about this new land and are ready to experience it all in person.
If you’re blessed, there is a walkable aspect to your new environment. That is, by far, the best way to really explore IMO.
Tramping through city streets or nature, your natural pace affords you the opportunity to really get a sense of your surroundings.
Bonus, you may be able to find things that you wouldn’t if you zoomed by in a car/bus/train and you can meander into places that catch your eye.
THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES: Now you have the lay of the land. You have found some favorite haunts and are established, a bit, in your new surroundings.
Get involved in local groups, subscribe to the local paper or newsletter, check out local events, and your local library. All of these are great resources for keeping up with the happenings in your new hometown.
Keep in mind, the only constant in life is change.
Stay in the know, see new things, enjoy old things, and keep exploring!
I would love to hear about how you start your exploration voyages!
Cheers.
