New Orleans, LA: The Big Easy 2018

Disclosure: I have not been compensated or sponsored in any way for any of the mentions in this post. I just f*ing love them.

Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
When that’s where you left your heart
The moonlight on the bayou a creole tune that fills the air
I dream about magnolias in bloom and I’m wishing I was there
— Louis Armstrong

NOLA IS SUCH A SPECIAL GEM THAT YOU HAVE TO GO MORE THAN ONCE. TRULY.

Local Highlights: There are a lot of them.

It’s a difficult decision with where to start in New Orleans, but you cannot go wrong with some beignets and chicory coffee at Cafe du Monde.

If heaven was on a plate, this is it.

Be warned, in your excitement to eat these heavenly pillows of dough and sugar, do not inhale as you bite into them - powdered sugar up the nose is not an experience you need. Trust me. Take it slow.

The French Market is an experience to savor, just like the beignets and chicory coffee. And you can do both simultaneously.

After an amazing start to your day at Cafe du Monde, you can stroll Jackson Square. Artists, musicians, shops aplenty: it’s a quirky bird’s dream! (Or just my dream)

NOLA is a walkable city, but if your feet get tired, there’s always the street car. It’s got no AC, but the nostalgia factor makes up for it and the windows open for a slow breeze.

The Photography: I had my trusty Nikon D3200 DSLR with me on these adventures and exclusively used my fixed 50mm lens.

You can see above, I was attempting to capture some delicious bokeh. After multiple attempts and fiddling with the settings, I got it! Oh, the fun of learning new things (VICTORY DANCE)!

Let’s talk about the “golden hour”. It’s that time of day right after the sun rises and right before it sets that magically (or scientifically really) brings out the best in your photography.

As I am an early bird, it’s no sacrifice for me to get up before the sun. The Immigrant statue above is proof that the time of day really impacts your results.

I highly recommend taking at least one photography class in person (when it’s safe to do so). There are so many things to learn and having live interaction can really help expand your skillset.

THE BEAUTY OF THE WORLD IS JUST WAITING FOR YOU TO SEE IT.

New Orleans will always be one of my favorite places on earth. I hope you can enjoy a trip there as well.

As always, you can check out my portfolio for more pictures from this trip and my other travels.

Let me know where your favorite places are!

Cheers.

Clara
